Rudy Gestede is a late loan target for Millwall with Thursday’s 11pm deadline getting ever closer.

The Teesside Gazette is reporting that the 30-year-old is a loan target for Neil Harris as he looks to add to his depleted striking options.

Tom Bradshaw is out for the season with a knee injury, meanwhile, Tom Elliott is out with a shoulder problem.

Leaving the Lions with just 35-year-old Steve Morison and Lee Gregory as the club’s only fit forwards at present.

Aiden O’Brien has deputised in that role when Gregory has been out, with a change to the formation, too, to try and combat the lack of attacking options.

Millwall are in need of a target man with Elliott out, and it appears their search has led them to the Riverside with Gestede subject of interest from the struggling side.

The lure of an FA Cup tie with Wimbledon, with a place in the quarter-finals a distinct possibility could be a selling point for a striker who has had terrible luck with injury since his move to Middlesbrough.

Gestede has made just one start this term and three from the bench, totalling just 109 minutes without managing to score or assist.

Having tumbled down the pecking order at Boro, would it be a good signing if Millwall were to capture the Benin international on a temporary deal?

We asked our team of FLW writers their thoughts on the link.

Here’s what they had to say.

George Harbey

“Gestede suits Millwall to a tee.

“He’s a very physical striker who is very good in the air and would form a perfect partnership with Lee Gregory up top.

“Although he hasn’t played an awful lot of games in recent years, I still firmly believe that he is still a fantastic striker at this level.”

Jacob Potter

“He's exactly what they need.

“Millwall don't have enough quality strikers at the club this season apart from Lee Gregory, and they need someone to challenge him for a starting spot.

“Gestede is proven at Championship level and has a point to prove.

“This would be an ideal move for both parties involved.”

Alfie Burns

“Good signing. He will suit Millwall’s style.

“To be honest, I’m amazed Pulis is so open to letting him leave, as he’s ideal for Boro too.

“However, if he’s available and Millwall can get it over the line, it’ll be great business for Neil Harris.

“Gestede will score goals and should help Millwall rise through the Championship.”
