Reading manager Jose Gomes has turned down a £450,000 bid from Wigan Athletic, for former Manchester United defender Tyler Blackett, as reported in the Daily Mail.
This is the third bid that Wigan have made for the 24-year-old, who is also a target for both Middlesbrough and Stoke City, as their new Chinese owners look to strengthen their squad.
So is the decision to reject the Wigan offer, the right one for Reading?
“If Reading want to stay up, they need to keep their better players.
“And I think Tyler Blackett is one of them, to be honest.
“When he is on form and firing, he is a great player to have in your team, so for Wigan to bid what they did is a little derisory if you ask me.
“It’s the right move to reject the offer, and they should reject more if they come to the door of the Madejski.”
“He’s definitely worth more than that.
“Blackett is a good squad member to have for Reading this season as he can play either at left-back or in the centre of defence.
“He might not be the first-choice option to have for Jose Gomes, but with the likes of Tiago Ilori and Liam Moore likely to be linked with a move away, Reading will surely want to do everything they can to hold on to him.”
