Football League World’s Charlton Athletic fan pundit Robert Smith has given his thoughts on defender Naby Sarr recently earning a call-up to the Senegal national team for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Sarr has been a regular in Lee Bowyer’s team since the start of last season and Smith believes that there is no one more deserving of the accolade than the robust centre-back.
“I think you’d be hard pushed to find a Charlton player who has improved as much as Naby over the last 12 months,” the regular punter told Football League World.
Who is Charlton's best defender?
“He’s always had quality but has struggled defensively and physically with the demands of English football but has come on leaps and bounds and deserves he’s chance at International level.”
Sarr has been a regular in Lee Bowyer’s side since the start of last season after initially signing permanently from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2015 and has now had his fine form recognised ahead of his coutry’s qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations.
After initially making the move to The Valley, Sarr was shipped out on loan to Red Star Belgrade on a season long loan before returning for the 2017/18 season.
He made 18 appearances in what was a sporadic campaign under Karl Robinson but with 36 run outs to his name in the promotion winning campaign of last season, including all three play-off matches, he has become a firm fan favourite.
Charlton will be hoping to get back to winning ways this coming weekend, however, when they come up against Millwall at the Den in a London derby, following their Sunday defeat to Preston North End.
