Having recently been linked with a move away from the City Ground, Kenny Burns has delivered his verdict on Nottingham Forest midfielder Joao Carvalho.

The Portuguese midfielder arrived at Forest for a club-record fee of £13.2m last summer, signing for the Reds from Benfica.

But the 22-year-old has since divided opinions amongst the Reds faithful, scoring just six goals and producing nine assists in 54 games for Forest.

Having been in and out of the side under Sabri Lamouchi, Tiago Silva has established himself as Forest's first-choice attacking midfielder this season.

According to reports from Fotospor, Trabzonspor are interested in signing Carvalho in January, after scouts recommended the midfielder to manager Unal Karaman.

Speaking to Nottinghamshire Live, former Forest man Kenny Burns has insisted that Forest should look to sell Carvalho amid reported interest.

Can you score 13 out of 13 on this Forest quiz?

He said: "For me, I’d be looking to try and move on Joao Carvalho when the window opens on New Year’s Day to free up money on the wage bill and give Sabri Lamouchi more ammunition to bolster his attack, which we all know is desperate for help.

"I’ve never really taken to him since he arrived for the best part if £13m last summer. And while he’s shown glimpses of ability, it hasn’t been consistent enough to warrant him staying around. He's basically a bench warmer now for the most part."

Carvalho is a popular figure at Forest, although some fans are starting to lose patience with his inconsistent performances and lack of impact on games.

Here, we take a look at how Forest fans have reacted to Burns' views on Facebook...

Geoff Mitchell: Just offload some of the wage bill , Yacob , Bridcutt , Hefele , Clough and any others that are surplus to requirements, don’t sell your most skilful players

Christopher Hibbert: Haha yeah mate, get rid or Carvalho and Lolley? 2 of the names that most fans want to see on the team sheet. Cheers Kenny, see you later

Sohail Kayani: So basically sell lolley and cavaleho and then maybe sign some players???

Kevin Whitt: He hasn’t a clue nowadays

Andrew Shaw: Sign BOWEN

Debra Smith: Have you changed your mind about selling Grabban now then Kenny?

Tom Martin: I don't even need to click the article to know this is written by Kenny Burns. He's clueless
