Sunderland could be in for a big summer ahead really, but a lot could well depend on the club making it into the Championship.

Jack Ross' men lost Josh Maja in January, but spent big on Will Grigg in the hope the Northern Ireland man fire them back into the second tier.

However, Grigg has yet to get off the mark, and one man who is getting in and amongst the goals is Doncaster Rovers ace John Marquis.

The forward has 18 goals to his name already this term and this weekend admitted to the Sunderland Echo via the Doncaster Free Press that he could well be open to a move to the Stadium of Light after being aware of interest in the January window.

But should Sunderland be looking at Marquis? Or do they have enough with Grigg and co?

We asked our writing team here at FLW for their thoughts...

Gary Hutchinson

“Much depends on the next few months.

“With Wyke and Grigg up front, would they need Marquis too?

“If they’re in League One, they’ll be out of the race anyway.

“He’s bound for the Championship. He has to be.”

Lee Connor

"If they stay in League One, it makes sense, if they go up, it makes even more sense.

"Marquis is ready to test himself at a bigger club, without being disrespectful to Doncaster.

"He'd be a shrewd signing, and a low risk one too".

George Harbey

"I think if they are still in League One, then definitely.
"Marquis has been on fire over the last few years and is very suited to League One football.
"I don’t think he’d do as well in the Championship, though."
