Leeds United continue to set the pace in the Championship this season and a major contribution to their fine form has been the pairing of Liam Cooper and Pontus Jansson, at the heart of the Whites defence.

It has therefore come as a huge shock to Leeds fans that Cooper has been overlooked in the Scotland squad, named for next week’s Euro 2020 qualifiers against Kazakhstan and San Marino by manager Alex McLeish, as published on the official Scotland national team Twitter feed.

McLeish clearly keeps an eye on the Championship by the inclusion of Kenny McLean, John McGinn and Oli McBurnie who have been named in the squad.

So is it a surprise that Cooper has missed out on a Scotland call-up?

We discuss.....

Jacob Potter

"He’s been harshly dealt with.

"Cooper has been one of the standout players for Leeds this season and he would have been fully deserving of a Scotland call-up.

"This is good news for Leeds though as he can stay fit with them and not risk an injury on international duty."

Gary Hutchinson

“I have no real thoughts on this.

“International call ups mean a lot less these days, don’t they?

“The Eire squad doesn’t feature a single player based in Ireland.

“It doesn’t matter.”

Jay Taylor

“I am, to be honest, he has been an absolute rock for Leeds.

“His time will come, that is for sure, but he should have been selected this time around.

“Maybe Alex McLeish has something against him? Who knows.”
