Sheffield Wednesday have been dealt a blow with the news of Josh Onomah’s latest injury setback.

The Star Sheffield is reporting that the Tottenham Hotspur loanee is excepted to be out for up to a month with a hamstring injury.

The 21-year-old pulled up in the closing stages of last weekend’s win over relegation-threatened Ipswich Town in Steve Bruce’s first game in Charge.

Onomah has managed just 12 appearances in the league this term, eight from the start and the rest from the bench in what has been a stuttering start to life at Hillsborough.

And with the news of his injury, that looks set to be the tone once more with a further month, at most, being spent in the treatment room.

Since his loan move to Hillsborough, Onomah has been blighted by injury and lack of form, dating back to the start of the season, and things have failed to improve on that front, it seems.

With that said, we asked our team of FLW writers if they thought the Spurs loanee’s time at Sheffield Wednesday has been a let-down after the latest news on his most recent injury.

Here’s what they had to say on the matter.

George Harbey

“He can’t help injuries, of course, but Onomah really has been underwhelming for Wednesday this season.

“He was impressive for Villa last season but has really failed to make an impact at Hillsborough this season.

“I do feel for him though, especially after Jos Luhukay ripped him earlier on in the season - I can’t help but feel that Onomah was made to be the scapegoat in the Owls’ dismal run of form.”

Jacob Potter

“He's been a waste of a signing.

“I expected a lot from Onomah when he arrived at Hillsborough, but he has spent more time on the sidelines than on the pitch.

“It's been a signing to forget, and when he has played, he's hardly made a notable contribution.”

Louie Chandler

“Most definitely.

“He has shown flashes of quality, but the fact that his injury is not a particularly big loss should say everything about the impact he has had.

“It will be frustrating for Bruce, however, to suffer his first setback so soon after taking over.”
