Kenny Burns has criticised Nottingham Forest striker Rafa Mir after his performance in the 2-2 draw against Millwall on Friday night.

The 22-year-old made only his second league start for the Reds on Friday night, starting up top for Forest against Gary Rowett's Millwall.

But the Spanish forward failed to open his Forest account at the 13th time of asking, as he produced yet another toothless display in front of goal.

The Wolves loanee was taken off and replaced by Lewis Grabban after the hour mark, with the latter scoring a brace in quick succession to help Forest get back into the game.

Mir's performances have certainly flattered to deceive since arriving on loan from Molineux, and with the Reds expected to sign another striker in January, his game-time could become even more limited.

Speaking in his latest Nottinghamshire Live column, Burns has ripped into Mir after his performance against the Lions on Friday night, questioning his impact since his summer arrival.

Can you score 13 out of 13 on this Forest quiz?

He said: "I watched Rafa Mir’s performance on Friday night at Millwall and found myself asking, not for the first time, why did Nottingham Forest actually sign him?

"Look, I’ll give him his due. He runs around a fair bit. But that’s about all he does. A quick glance at his goalscoring record tells you he’s hardly prolific in front of goal – that, I assume, is why the club signed him in the first place, to find the net and take the pressure of Lewis Grabban?

"He’s played 13 games at Forest, and not really looked like finding the net - in all honesty, he’s been a flop and will go down as one of the worst signings in a long time."

Forest will be desperate to get back to winning ways against Middlesbrough tonight, as Sabri Lamouchi prepares to come up against Jonathan Woodgate in the City Ground dugouts.

Forest sit fifth in the Sky Bet Championship table, 10 points off the automatic promotion places with a game in hand.

The Verdict

Mir has been a dreadful signing since arriving on loan from Wolves in the summer, and it wouldn't even surprise me if he gets recalled in January.

He's 22 years of age and needs to be playing week in, week out, and that's something that Forest won't be able to give him with Lewis Grabban in superb form.

He doesn't use his aerial threat and size to full effect, and needs to start improving sooner rather than later.
