Nottingham Forest have had a brilliant season this year and have shown so much progression under Steve Cooper’s management.
They currently sit third in the league and after a 1-0 win over league leaders Fulham last night, their play-off spot is confirmed.
There have been a number of new arrivals at Forest this season and many who are worthy of credit after adding great amounts to the side.
However, we asked FLW’s Nottingham Forest fan pundit Des who he would award signing of the season to: “Unlike previous seasons, Forest’s recruitment this season has been exceptional.
“They’ve utilised the loan market and the January window, which is notorious for making bad decisions, was a real highlight in getting the right players in for what Steve Cooper wanted.
“However, the signing of the season has to be one of those loans that came in before Cooper arrived.
“Djed Spence was a reserve at Middlesbrough, his career was going nowhere and his performances since he’s signed, his enthusiasm and his ability has come on leaps and bounds.
“He’s absolutely outstanding, formed a partnership with Brennan Johnson which has become unplayable at times, even against Premier League opposition.
“So for me, Djed Spence has to be the signing of the season.
“Unfortunately, he’s a loan signing and we’re going to have to do out utmost to keep him any longer than this season.”
Nottingham Forest quiz: Does the City Ground have a bigger or smaller capacity than these 20 stadiums?
There are a number of players who could have fairly been awarded signing of the season this year. Looking at their loans alone, there isn’t a single player who hasn’t come in and had a great impact on the side.
This is exactly what you want from your new signings at a club and it helps explain why Forest have been so brilliant this year. They have made sure the business they have done is effective.
Djed Spence is a brilliant shout for signing of the season. The 21-year-old has scored two goals and contributed five assists this season and, as Des points out, his partnership with Johnson has been brilliant to watch.
Of course as a loan player, Forest may need to be looking towards next season without him but should they go up, it could really help their chances in retaining the player.
