‘He’s absolutely crucial’ – Sunderland fans react to news of possible departure

Sunderland preserved their unbeaten start to the Championship season with a 1-1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday.

The Black Cats drew at home to Derby County on the opening day before cruising past Norwich City 3-1 last weekend, thus they likely headed into yesterday’s clash at Hillsborough confident of extending their fine start.

And it took them just four minutes to open the scoring through midfielder George Honeyman, and although they had chances to net what would have been the crucial second, they were made to pay as David Jones levelled proceedings 20 minutes from time.

Nonetheless, it has been a fine start from Simon Grayson’s side following the huge overhaul of players at the North East giants over the summer, and recent reports suggest that another man could be on his way out of the club, namely midfielder Didier Ndong.

The 23-year-old only moved to Sunderland last year but couldn’t inspire them to Premier League safety last season, but has shown his quality in the early stages of their Championship campaign.

And with three starts in their opening three games, he’s clearly an important part of Grayson’s squad, which is why reports of interest from French giants Lyon is likely to concern the former Preston manager.

And news of Lyon’s interest in the Gabon international has also stimulated quite a response from Sunderland fans on Twitter, with it fair to say that many are hoping the club do not sell the 23-year-old this month…
