Football League World's Birmingham City fan pundit Jack Blenkiron believes that Manchester City centre-back Pablo Mari is a risky signing but one worth taking.

The Spaniard was linked with a move to St. Andrew's by We Are Birmingham on Tuesday morning and, with club captain Michael Morrison leaving the club on Monday, it is no surprise to see the rumour emerge.

"You automatically see that he plays for Manchester City and you think, quality," the regular punter told Football League World.

"In the last three years he’s proved that he can play in the Spanish second division as well as the Eredivisie and I think he’s a punt worth taking.

"Morrison leaving was an enormous blow, our captain who’s been at the club for almost five years, making almost 200 appearances and scoring seven last season from defence is a fantastic return.

"If Marí comes in it will soften the blow of the skipper’s departure, especially considering Pablo is only 25, and could be a mainstay in the defence for years to come."

As mentioned by Blenkiron, the 25-year-old defender is yet to make an appearance for his parent club but has plenty of first-team experience in Spain and Holland with Girona, Deportivo and NAC Breda.

But even if he was to arrive, it would only be a small part of a big summer job that needs to be done at the club this summer.

Jota has already made the move across the city to Aston Villa whilst Che Adams completed a record-breaking transfer to Southampton on Monday.

And our fan pundit is eager to see both names replaced as a matter of urgency.

"Che’s departure has left us in dire need of a striker," Blenkiron said.

"It’ll be near-impossible to replicate the goals he scored last year and whether the club purchase a replacement or use the youth is unknown.

"Jota’s departure has also left us in need of a creative winger. We’ve been linked with Swansea’s Jefferson Montero in the last week yet his proneness to injury may hamper his chances of gaining consistent form."
