Thomas Christiansen helped to lift some of the growing pressure off himself over the weekend, masterminding an exceptional 2-1 victory over an in-form Middlesbrough side at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon.
Leeds entered Sunday’s clash with Middlesbrough on a downward spiral, having lost seven of their last nine Sky Bet Championship fixtures, but goals from Pablo Hernandez and Ezgjan Alioski helped to turn the form table, as Christiansen’s side picked up a vital three points to move back to within touching distance of the play-off zone.
Stat guru, Chris Taylor (@LUFCDATA), has spent time looking at Christiansen’s tactics following Leeds’ victory, highlighting how the Whites targeted George Friend, Boro’s left-back.
Leeds' game plan involved targeting George Friend and Boro's left channel until he was replaced. Leeds attempted 12 of their 16 total crosses from the right flank. #LUFC #Tactics pic.twitter.com/0zVyBFkAXV

The latest graphic from @LUFCDATA shows how Leeds targeted Boro’s left edge, with 12 of their attempted 16 crosses coming from that side of the pitch.
Leeds’ tactics have been praised by the club’s supporters, with many calling out Christiansen for highlighting were Leeds could punish Middlesbrough.

He's a clever coach

I was urging Alioski to go outside, just once. I said the cross keeps getting blocked on the in-step. Next time he got the ball, 1-0! What do I know?

Him getting booked early on made it easier

Friend was scared of alioskis pace. Would retreat rather than go and meet every time

Those low balls across the goal were devastating. TC has obviously drilled them on it.
