England manager Gareth Southgate was at Elland Road to watch Leeds United's 2-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday, which has drawn an interesting response from Whites fans.

Led by ex-Whites boss Garry Monk, Wednesday scored two late goals to snatch the three points and allow West Bromwich Albion to knock Leeds off the top of the Championship.

Jacob Murphy scored the opener in the 87th minute, firing the ball past a passive Kiko Casilla at his near post, and then Atdhe Nuhiu put the result in no doubt with a stoppage-time goal after some magical play from Barry Bannan.

The defeat continues Leeds' shaky form in recent weeks. Marcelo Bielsa's men have now won just once in their last seven games–conceding 14 times during that run.

A few of their number may have been hoping to put in a particularly impressive display against the Owls today as it was revealed before the game that Southgate was at Elland Road to cast his eye over the tie.

Talismanic midfielder Kalvin Phillips has been highlighted as a player that the England boss should be considering ahead of Euro 2020, while on-loan centre-back Ben White is another man that has been tipped for the Three Lions.
