Things aren't looking good at Nottingham Forest right now amidst Fawaz al-Hasawi's plans to sell up at the end of the season.

The disgruntled owner, who has seen his side slide down the Championship table this season, is refusing to offer any contract extensions to the club's biggest stars until he leaves, which could leave the Reds in a spot of bother come May.

But for rival teams, the chance to poach big players who could be available at a cut-price rate could be too much to resist and one rumour we've seen triangulating over the past week has been Henri Lansbury being linked with Birmingham City.

With Gianfranco Zola now at the helm at St Andrews, things look to be shaken up in the Midlands by the Italian and it's thought Lansbury is one of the men on Zola's wanted list as he looks to rebuild the squad.

We think he'd be a cracking addition to a Birmingham side on the fringes of the play-offs, and here's 3 reasons why...

Offensively, he'd offer Blues another option

Birmingham have some cracking midfield options in their ranks but it's safe to say a lot of these are more defensively minded individuals.

The likes of Maikel Kieftenbeld, Steven Gleeson and David Davis are all more renowned for their defensive stability rather than their attempts to get forward and score goals and Henri Lansbury would really change that.

He's comfortable in possession going forward and scores his fair share of goals too.

As a re-sale option, Blues could make a bit of profit

With the Trillion Trophy Asia takeover now complete and the promise of some sort of spending money in place for January being confirmed, finances haven't looked so secure at St Andrews for years.

But if Zola can convince Lansbury to join the club either in January or May, he'd make for a cracking re-sale option somewhere along the line, if Blues can bring him in at the right price.

It's a strange way to look at a signing but there are plenty of teams in this division with spending budgets that can beat Birmingham's tenfold, so this isn't such a bad thought in the slightest.

He is a leader who could epitomize Zola's fresh plans

Henri Lansbury is the current captain of Nottingham Forest and that speaks volumes about how Phillipe Montanier sees him both on the pitch and in the dressing room.

And whether Blues fans like it or not, things are about to change down at St Andrews with Zola at the helm, so bringing in a leader who will be at the forefront of the manager's new plans won't be a bad thing in the slightest.

Many of the current Birmingham squad will be feeling a little sour about the way in which Gary Rowett left the club, so bringing in a big character right from the off might be a good way of bringing the group back together again.
