Aston Villa kept up their impressive run of form as they ran out 3-1 winners over play-off chasing rivals, Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

Steven Fletcher had given the Owls the lead on the day, before John McGinn equalised with an expertly-placed finish.

But Sheffield Wednesday had the chance to restore their lead, but Steven Fletcher saw his penalty saved by Jed Steer.

Villa went on to win the game thanks to injury-time goals from Albert Adomah and Tammy Abraham, but there's no doubt that the turning point in the game was Steer's penalty save.

Steer's Aston Villa team-mate, Henri Lansbury took to Instagram following the win, and praised the shot-stopper for his performance.

Lansbury made his long-awaited return to Villa's matchday squad on the day, although he wasn't called off the substitutes bench by Dean Smith.

But the former Nottingham Forest midfielder will be hoping that he can play his part in Villa's promotion push this season.

Lansbury and Steer's side are next in action, when they travel to the New York Stadium to take on relegation-threatened, Rotherham United in midweek.

The Verdict:

He was hugely impressive.

Steer has had his doubters this season but has really stepped up to the mark when needed and he has kept Villa well in the play-off mix in recent weeks.

He'll be hoping that he can continue this run of form as Villa head towards the conclusion of this season.
