It has been a busy start to the January transfer window for Sheffield United and Chris Wilder, with the Blades bolstering their squad early in the midseason window.

Ricky Holmes has been the latest addition at Bramall Lane, with the 30-year-old arriving in South Yorkshire from Charlton Athletic.

So far this season Holmes has scored six goals and registered six assists in League One, adding to impressive numbers posted last year for Charlton.

Here at FLW, we discuss the midfielder and if he is a good signing for Wilder’s side…

George Dagless

I think he'll really excel.

He was great under Chris Wilder at Northampton Town and brilliant at Charlton.

This is his last chance at the big-time, probably, and I think he'll take it with both hands.

Sam Preston

He looks like a bargain.

Wilder has wanted his man for months and that desire to get Holmes means he must have a clear role for the former Charlton man in mind.

He gets goals and assists and has the experience to make the step up comfortably.

Chris Gallagher

A good signing.

It will be interesting to see where he plays given the Blades play a 3-5-2 but he is ready to step up to the Championship.

Chris Wilder knows the player from Northampton and he should bring an additional goalscoring threat to the team.

Given the relatively low fee, it's a smart move.
