Football League World's Charlton Athletic fan pundit Robert Smith has given his view on the stance taken by the club's new owners after Lyle Taylor's most recent contract offer was withdrawn after the self-imposed deadline passed.

The news broke on Tuesday morning, via Richard Cawley of London News Online, with East Street Investments confirming that they will now be listening to offers for the marksman this month.

"I doubt very much they've walked away," the regular punter told Football League World.

QUIZ: Can you remember Charlton’s last 15 January deals?

"Our new Chairman is a former a football agent. He'll know how the game works in these kind of deals but I believe they feel they need to make a stand and be clear with the supporters on it and you have to respect that.

"I'd imagine losing Lyle Taylor is the last thing the new owners would want to be doing so early on but if he's going to go they've been out and upfront about it which the supporters which appreciate."

During his time with the club, Taylor has become an Addicks icon, netting 32 times in 58 games and of course helping them return to the Championship via the League One play-offs last season.

However his time in the second-tier has been a frutrating period so far, missing a huge chunk of the season with a knee injury, only recently returning to the field in a 1-0 defeat to Middlesbrough after missing 12 second-tier games.
