‘He’ll be right at home in the Prem’ – Many West Brom fans engage in Livermore/Sawyers debate

Many West Bromwich Albion fans have debated whether or not midfielder Romaine Sawyers has what it takes to continue his form in the Premier League, if they gain promotion.

The defensive midfielder has been in excellent form this season for Slaven Bilic’s side, playing alongside captain Jake Livermore in the middle of the park.

Consistent performances have been met with suspensions, having had a build up of yellow cards earlier in the season and a red card in the win over Bristol City at the weekend.

Sitting top of the Championship league table, the Baggies travelled to Ashton Gate in an attempt to gain another win and further their chances of promotion to the Premier League.

Callum Robinson opened the scoring for the visitors to get them off to the best possible start, before two goals from Hal Robson-Kanu secured all three points.

One blip on the result though was Sawyers’ red card, with the ex-Brentford man dismissed for a reaction to a foul from Jamie Paterson.

Sawyers’ dismissal will now see the likes of Gareth Barry and Rekeem Harper battle for a place in Bilic’s starting eleven, and his latest suspension has prompted a debate over his place in the team if the Baggies are indeed set for promotion to England’s top flight.

Football League World’s Ben Crump asked: “Do you think Slaven Bilic will trust Romaine Sawyers alongside Jake Livermore in the Premier League?” – via Facebook page WE AM Baggies, and the question drew an interesting response.

Shane Whitehouse: trouble is with sawyers and Livermore they tend to be quick-tempered with some of the tackles Livermore got away with in Champ he would have been sent off cuz of var but both players are crucial to this push for the prem we need all our best players what sawyers did was wrong he knows he shouldn’t put his hands on another playerATID COYB

Phil Daniels: Sawyers is a quality player, always available for the ball, never hides. Needs to cut the sloppy stuff out around our area and hoof it more but him and Livermore are the best central midfield duo we’ve had since Yacob and Mulumbu

Stan Harrison: I have said for some time Sawyers needs resting he doesn’t seem up for it in the last few matches .
And i wouldn’t want him in the Prem sorry .

John Moore: Yeah class player

Liam Onions: Yeah he’s class!

Mick Philpotts: I think we should appreciate that he will always receive the ball never shys away but he needs to release it earlier and shoot more. I admit his form has dropped but let’s stick with him. COYB

David Rock: Absolutely everyone was raving about Sawyers in the early part of the season, our fans, pundits other teams fans even opposing managers. Anyone who lets a mid season dip from his previous brilliant form cloud judgment ain’t right.

Ben Darby: As much as they work well in the championship the fact of the matter is we are going to have to do some serious buying if we go and players like Livermore and other older players will probably just be back up in the prem and not sure weather sawyers is premiership quality we won’t know till next season

Dan Forbes: He’ll be right at home in the prem

Paul Hill: He maybe OK you get a little bit more time and space in the PL only time will tell

Dave Thomas: Let’s get there first
