Charlton have recently completed the signing of midfielder, Erhun Oztumer, following his release from financially-troubled, Bolton Wanderers.

Football League World's Charlton Athletic fan pundit, Robert Smith has issued his thoughts on Oztumer's arrival at The Valley, and feels as though the 28-year-old has a point to prove after spending his youth career with the Addicks.

"I don’t think you can get enough creative players in your squad at Championship level.

"Oztumer offers that bit of spark in a number 10 role, dynamic, nimble with an eye for an assist or a goal, he would add another dimension onto what is looking like a well assembled side.

"Released as a youngster by Charlton for being too small could add that extra bit of determination to finally prove himself at the club."

The Charlton fan pundit outlined Oztumer's attributes that he will bring to Lee Bowyer's team this season, and is hoping that the midfielder will be keen to prove himself in the Championship as soon as possible, after a disappointing spell with Bolton in last year's campaign.

"With a reputation for spectacular goals and averaging 15 goals a season for Walsall in League One, he has that ability to get in between the lines, receive the ball and pose a real threat going forward.

"Some question marks will remain from a disappointing campaign in his only season at Championship level with Bolton, but it could well be argued due to his stature at 5”3 he really didn’t fit into a more direct tactical approach that Phil Parkinson used last season.

"He’s a player I’m sure Bowyer will love to coach with him putting real emphasis of getting into box from midfield and scoring goals, fueled with the disappointment from last season he’ll be champing at the bit to prove himself at this level this time round."

Smith insisted that it will be difficult for Oztumer to force his way into the starting XI at this moment in time, but feels as though competition for places is what Lee Bowyer needs in his Charlton squad this season.

"Charlton have on current viewing recruited well, especially in midfield over the last 10 days so it’s going to be tough.

"I'd suggest Bowyer will deploy him as a 10 behind the two main strikers to a free role off one main forward. With Jonny Williams starting the season on great form, a returning goalscoring Chuks Aneke also in the mix we have real competition for places.

"He’ll have his work cut out to get in right now, but these are exactly the headaches that Lee Bowyer would have been crying out for just 2 weeks ago."
