Aston Villa capped off an impressive run of form since the turn of the year as they won promotion to the Premier League.

Dean Smith’s side ran out narrow, 2-1 winners in the Championship Play-Off Final at Wembley to book their spot back in the top-flight.

One man that has certainly played his part in their promotion back to the Premier League is John McGinn who has been a revelation since arriving from Hibernian in the summer of 2018.

On today's Six Pointer, FLW's Jacob Potter looks into the influence that McGinn has had for Villa this season.

Just how important has McGinn been for Villa this season?

He’s been crucial to their promotion-winning season.

Without him, I would find it hard to believe that Villa would have finished inside the top six.

His influence to Dean Smith’s side is huge, and you’ll struggle to find a midfielder that is able to get anywhere near his energy levels in English football.

What does he bring to this Aston Villa side?

As previously mentioned, his energy levels and determination are his main attributes.

But with this, it means that Villa have the perfect balance in midfield, alongside Jack Grealish and Conor Hourihane.

McGinn is the more defence-minded out of the three, but you wouldn’t think it, especially since he won the Goal of the Season award for his stunning volley against Sheffield Wednesday.

Has he been one of the signings of the season?

Without a shadow of a doubt.

McGinn has hardly put a foot wrong since making the move to Villa Park, and he’s been one of the signings of the season in the Championship.

It does make you wonder where they would be without him, as he’s had that much of a positive impact on Dean Smith’s side this season.

Has he adjusted to the demands of English football?

He’s adjusted very well.

I’ll be the first to admit that I had my doubts about whether McGinn was capable of adjusting to the demands of English football, but he’s certainly silenced me.

If anything, his disciplinary record could be worked on, and he’ll be hoping to improve that heading into the Premier League next season.

Is he capable of making the step up to the Premier League?

McGinn is more than capable of making the step up to the Premier League.

He's shown that he's far too good for the Championship, and I can see him becoming a regular in the top-flight as he progresses further on into his career.

It'll be interesting to see how he does in his first season in the top-flight though, as it won't be easy for McGinn at first.

Can you see other clubs being interested in signing him over the summer?

He’ll be attracting interest.

You simply don’t play as well as McGinn has and not draw in interest from clubs in a higher division.

But now that Aston Villa are back in the big time, many supporters will be confident that the Scotsman will remain with the club for another season at least.

We’ve already seen the likes of Noel Whelan claim that McGinn should be a target for Norwich City and Sheffield United.
