With two permanent signings already confirmed Aston Villa are wasting no time in preparing themselves for life back in the Premier League.

And it looks like Dean Smith has acquired his next target, with the Sun reporting that a £20million bid could be on its way from Villa to Stoke City for the services of goalkeeper Jack Butland.

According to the report, Smith is keen to bring in a shot-stopper with Premier League experiencer for their top-flight return, with Butland topping the list.

However, given the way that Jed Steer performed in the final months of the season and especially the play-offs, Butland will not find it easy to break into the team.

But would he get in ahead of Steer?

We discuss...

Toby Wilding

"No question he starts.

"Butland has more experience, and is more proven at this level, than any of the other 'keepers Villa currently have on their books.

"Given the size of the price tag as well, it would surely be a complete waste to spend as much as they would be doing, simply to leave him sat on the bench."

Jacob Potter

"He'd walk into their starting XI.

"Jed Steer has really impressed me recently, but I don't think he's going to be good enough in the Premier League.

"Butland has experience of playing in the top-flight, and is a fantastic goalkeeper, and could thrive in Dean Smith's side heading into next season."

Kealan Hughes

"Yes I think he would.

"I think Jed Steer is the best goalkeeper currently at Villa, and Butland is better than him.

"He is an international standard goalkeeper and he would go into the starting line-up of most Premier League teams, aside from the top six."
