Sunderland had a busy transfer deadline day as they looked in particular for a striker to replace Josh Maja who had made a move to Bordeaux, and were linked with a number of players before finalising a deal for Will Grigg from Wigan at the eleventh hour.

One player reported to have been under consideration was controversial striker Ched Evans, who is currently at Fleetwood Town on loan from Sheffield United, but Black Cats manager Jack Ross was not keen when owner Stewart Donald suggested the name.

After this revelation, is it fair to say Sunderland dodged a bullet by not signing Evans?

We discuss.....

George Harbey

"I think it would just bring them attention they don’t want.

"In an ideal world, Evans could just get on with his football without worrying about what people think, but I don’t think that will ever be the case.

"For what it’s worth, I think he would have been a great signing for Sunderland."

Jacob Potter

"I think he could have been a real asset to Jack Ross’ side.

"Evans is a proven goalscorer and could have been the man to fire Sunderland back into the Championship at the first time of asking.

"He'd have been worth the punt."

Gary Hutchinson

“I wouldn’t have him in my side if I were Jack Ross.

“I wouldn’t sign him for a League Two side.

“Not because of the controversy, but because he’s actually a bang average player.

“The Black Cats didn’t need him one bit.”
