Nottingham Forest are just one of the Championship sides keen on taking attacking midfielder Josh Windass from struggling Wigan Athletic, according to the Daily Mail, with Bristol City and Cardiff City both also interested in the midfielder.

Despite not finding the form that he did north of the border in the SPFL with Rangers the Hull-born dynamo has still stood out amid a rather limited group of players at the DW Stadium.

Four goals in 15 games is hardly a return that has set the world alight but, a number of rival second-tier clubs are apparently tempted to offer the 26-year-old an escape route out of the struggling Latics.

So would Windass be a good addition at the City Ground, is he needed and would he get into their starting XI?

We discuss...........

Chris Gallagher

"He'd be slightly underwhelming for Forest, even if he could have a role to play.

"Firstly, the positives. Windass is a good player who could fill any of the four attacking positions in Lamouchi's preferred 4-2-3-1 formation and the Reds lack depth currently.

"So, he would help the group out as they look to win promotion and it's clear a new option in the final third is required.

"However, you get the feeling that Forest need a bit more quality. They have a good side but they need someone who could chip in with up to ten goals until May to ease the pressure off Lewis Grabban and Windass isn't that man.

"It's the final piece of the jigsaw for Forest and they should splash out to get someone better."

"Josh Windass would be a good addition for any Championship club, and Forest would be no different in that respect as he would add a much needed goal threat from midfield.

"Given the quality that the club already possesses throughout their squad, it would be hard to see Windass nailing down a starting spot straight away, so therefore it's fair to assume that he would have to come off the bench at first.

"Forest will be looking to add to their squad as they seek to strengthen their hunt for the play-offs, so therefore they can do a lot worse than snaring the services of Windass from Wigan.

"Competition for the player's signature is likely to be fierce, so for that reason Forest will need to act fast if they are to secure the services of the 26-year-old midfielder."

“Windass has been a shining light in an otherwise poor Wigan side, who’s time in the Championship looks to finally be over. With that in mind, Wigan might be inclined to sell Windass and their ‘better’ players to give themselves some cash in case of the inevitable.

“He’s scored four goals in 15 Championship appearances so far this season, having missed large parts of the season through injury. At 26-years-old he’s soon to enter the prime of his career and the fact that he’s managing to score in a Wigan side that’s never really scored goals is impressive enough.

“Forest have been over-reliant on Lewis Grabban this season. The 32-year-old has had a fine season with 16 league goals so far, but at his age, it’s unlikely that he’ll be able to keep that pace up all season. Windass could provide good back-up and versatile back-up too, being able to play on either wing as well as up-front.

“Windass would certainly get enough game-time, whether or not he’d be starting most of the time though is in doubt. Forest is a club looking upwards and Windass could well want to be part of that project, and could look forward to the possibility of Premier League football next season.”
