Leeds United have competition on their hands if they wish to take Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour on loan in January, with Nottingham Forest also keen in the Scottish U21 international, as reported on London Football News.

Gilmour, 18, is a product of Rangers youth system, and he moved to Stamford Bridge in July 2017, breaking into the first team under Frank Lampard this season with a handful of appearances.

But would Gilmour be a good addition to the Leeds United squad?

We discuss.........

Jacob Potter

"He’d be exactly what they need to fire themselves into the Premier League.

"Leeds have been crying out for a player to take the weight of expectation off of Pablo Hernandez’s shoulders this season.

"The Spaniard has been the player to provide the creative spark in recent seasons, but Gilmour could unlock defences at this level in my opinion.

"I’ve been really impressed with what I’ve seen from the Chelsea youngster in recent years, and he’s already shown that he can adjust to the demands of senior football, having played in both the Carabao Cup and the Champions League group stage for Chelsea earlier this season.

"He could prove to be the missing piece in the promotion jigsaw for Leeds this season if he finds his best form."

Ben Lang

"This would be a move that could make a lot of sense next summer, but I can't see it being much interest to the Whites at the moment.

"Gilmour's ability to control the game would make him a good fit under Bielsa, but there doesn't seem to be a clear slot for him in the Leeds' starting line-up at present.

"Furthermore, the lack of starts received by Eddie Nketiah and Helder Costa has already proven how difficult it is to break into the Leeds starting line-up under Bielsa, and the situation would not be much different for Gilmour.

"Chelsea will only want to send Gilmour on loan to a club where he would receive regular playing time, and I don't think Leeds fit that bill for the time being."

Toby Wilding

"It could be a good signing.

"The fact that Gilmour is already on the fringes of Chelsea's first team at 18-years-old highlights the quality of player that he is, and Leeds do have good form for bringing through young players in the past few years.

"But do they really need another loanee?

"With six already in the squad, they are over five loans per matchday squad limit as it is, and there is plenty of talk around recalls for Eddie Nketiah and Jack Clarke as a result of their own lack of game time.

"Bringing in another loan here therefore, just feels like it would heighten those problems even more, with the pressure to accommodate the expectations of parent clubs only increasing further, which may be a distraction Leeds simply don't need as they go in search of promotion."
