Sunderland's relegation to League One was confirmed on Saturday as the club sunk to a 2-1 defeat to Burton Albion at the Stadium of Light.

With the third tier on the horizon, there is likely to be a mass exodus of players at the club and George Honeyman could be one player targeted by other clubs, after his impressive season.

The 23-year-old midfielder has been a shining light in what has been an abysmal season for the club.

Celtic could be one club keeping a keen eye on the situation of the talented Honeyman, and a potential summer enquiry could be made by Brendan Rodgers' side.

Would Honeyman and Celtic be a good fit? Should the Bhoys launch a move?

We discuss...

George Dagless

This is worth a punt.

Celtic have some good midfielders at the club already but few are as versatile as Honeyman.

He can provide a variety of skills across the middle third of the pitch and with Scott Brown guiding him he'd likely become a very solid acquisition.

Ben Barkworth

Celtic shouldn't be chasing after Honeyman if they want to keep progressing in Europe.

He would be good enough for the domestic competitions, but they need to be going after better players if they want to improve their record outside of Scotland.

Alfie Burns

I can see why Celtic would want Honeyman, however, I’m not sure he’d get regular football under Brendan Rodgers.

If it’s a straight shootout between Celtic and Rangers to sign Honeyman this summer, you can see the former winning, but a move to Ibrox could be a better fit for the midfielder.

Rodgers needs to think if Honeyman is what his side needs this summer.

Gary Hutchinson

He'd be better off at Rangers, they're not quite at Celtic's level and he'd get more opportunities there.

It's a gamble for either side as he's not exactly a proven player, but there's value in the deal, for sure.
