Notts County have reportedly spoken to former Leeds and Barnsley manager Paul Heckingbottom regarding the vacant managerial role, according to reliable Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

The 41-year-old has been out of work since the end of the last season, where he was sacked after winning just four of his 16 games in charge of Leeds United.

Before departing Oakwell for Elland Road, Heckingbottom did a superb job at Barnsley, where he initially took over as caretaker manager in the 16/17 season, to then take the Tykes up in the same campaign via the League One playoffs.

Here, we discuss whether he’d be a good appointment for the struggling Magpies...

Alfie Burns

He’d be an excellent appointment - forget his failed Leeds spell.

Heckingbottom did a fantastic job at Barnsley, so stepping down into League Two should be no problem all.

This’d be an excellent move for Notts. They should be getting this done ASAP.

Jacob Potter

It would be an excellent appointment.

Heckingbottom did have a poor spell at Leeds which somewhat tarnished his reputation as a well-established manager.

He has already managed at a higher level than Notts County are currently in, and the former Leeds boss could be the perfect appointment to inspire an underperforming group of players that certainly have the ability to be challenging for a top six finish.

George Harbey

It would be a real coup of Notts were to land Heckingbottom.

It didn’t work out for him at Leeds, however, he worked absolute wonders at Barnsley.

Either Paul Hurst or Heckingbottom would be class appointments.
