Aston Villa continue to make progress up the Championship table and are up to eighth following a 4-2 victory in the Second City derby on Sunday.

Though a great result for Villa, boss Dean Smith will be aware that recruits are still needed in the January transfer window, if they are to remain in the promotion race.

According to Sun journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter, Villa are now in pole position to sign Burnley keeper Tom Heaton in January.

So would Heaton be a good signing for Villa?

We discuss.....

Jacob Potter

He would be an excellent addition.

Orjan Nyland has improved in recent weeks but Heaton would be a fantastic signing and would be confident of forcing his way into the starting XI.

Heaton is an established Premier League goalkeeper, and he would be the perfect addition to add some experience to the Villa squad in their promotion run in.

Gary Hutchinson

Yes!

They’ve needed to sort the keeper situation out all summer. Sadly, neither Nyland nor their loan signing are up to scratch.

Tom Heaton is a keeper familiar with the English game, the conditions and pitches.

He’d be a wonderful signing, for an aspiring Premier League side.

Jay Taylor

He can be the missing piece in Dean Smith’s puzzle.

Add in some defenders in January and Aston Villa could well be on their way to a promotion push in the near future after Christmas.

Orjan Nyland has improved somewhat since Smith’s arrival but the signing of Tom Heaton will be a marquee one and could be the difference between them challenging and remaining in mid-table.
