Cardiff City are reportedly battling Nottingham Forest and Bristol City to sign Wigan midfielder Josh Windass, according to a report by the Daily Mail, with the Bluebirds still looking to recruit their first player in this transfer window.

The versatile midfielder would be attractive to Harris, if reports are to be believed, as he is an attacking midfielder who would provide real competition for Lee Tomlin, who has been the Bluebirds’ only real creative outlet this season.

So would Windass be a good fit at the Cardiff City Stadium, is he needed and would he make the starting XI?

We discuss.........

Chris Gallagher

"He'd be a very good signing.

"Neil Harris has done an okay job since he was appointed as Cardiff boss but it's clear that they need to improve in the final third.

"They are extremely reliant on Lee Tomlin, so signing Windass would ease the pressure on the attacking midfielder.

"The Wigan man would provide the team with pace, a direct style and he is capable of chipping in with goals and assists. He is another who would excite the fans and give the team another dimension when they attack as they are predictable at times right now.

"For the £500,000 mentioned, you would have to say that this would be a great bit of business for the Bluebirds if they could pull it off."

Chris Thorpe

"This is a signing that would add a lot to Cardiff's attack, with Neil Harris sure to be seeking a lot more creativity from his midfield as we head into the second half of the campaign.

"He offers something different to that of Lee Tomlin for example, so therefore it's fair to say that the Bluebirds could do a lot worse than securing the signature of the former Rangers man.

"He would definitely get into the starting eleven if he were to make the move to south Wales, as Cardiff have yet to show much in the way of consistency so far under Harris.

"In conclusion, Cardiff will surely be heading the queue for the player's services come the last knockings of the window, as out of all the potential suitors, a move to the Cardiff City Stadium would make the most sense for Windass."

“Cardiff fans have been waiting patiently to see their first signing of the window walk through the doors, and it could well be Wigan’s Josh Windass. Neil Harris said earlier in the season that he’d need to offload some players before he could bring any in, and with a couple of departures done, he can now look at signings.

“Windass has been on and off the physio’s table this season, meaning he’s played just 15 Championship games for Wigan so far. But in those 15 he’s scored four times, which is a decent amount considering Wigan are a team that have never really been a free-scoring side.

“As it looks more likely that Wigan are going down, Windass could look for the door. Cardiff don’t really need a striker though - they could almost make a starting eleven out of strikers but Windass is a bit younger than most of them, and a bit more versatile too - he can play on either wing or behind the striker.

“He might not get in the starting eleven every week with Robert Glatzel being the lone-striker on most occasions. He could start either side of the German though, or even partner him up-front. At this stage of the window Cardiff fans just want to see anyone come through the doors. Harris might be able to get him on the cheap from Wigan but given his injury record, it’d be a risky signing.”
