Aston Villa may be in pole position to sign Burnley keeper Tom Heaton according to Alan Nixon on Twitter, but Villa could face competition from Championship rivals Stoke City if reports in The Sun (25th Nov, Page 60) are to be believed.

Heaton has fallen further down the pecking order at Burnley since the arrival of Joe Hart and with Nick Pope close to getting back to fitness, game-time for Heaton seems slim.

So with Heaton in demand from the Championship, would he be a good signing for Stoke if manager Gary Rowett managed to secure his services?

We discuss.....

He should certainly be considered, as he'd be a useful signing.

Heaton would be the perfect replacement for Jack Butland who could be heading back to the Premier League in January after his impressive start to the season.

His experience could be exactly what Gary Rowett’s side are missing this season as they battle to find their feet in the Championship this year.

Gary Hutchinson

If Butland moves on, then of course.

They’ll be hoping to cash in one their own keeper and turn a profit whilst replacing him adequately.

Heaton would be a good replacement and they’d have some change left over to indulge themselves a little too.

Jay Taylor

Stoke would only be interested in Tom Heaton if they were on the cusp of losing Jack Butland, and this to me suggests that Gary Rowett could be preparing for life after the England international.

I don’t see Tom Heaton leaving to go to Stoke myself, as there are clubs who are looking to sign him that are better placed for a promotion tilt after Christmas.

Don’t get me wrong, it would be a good signing, but one I can’t seem to imagine happening any time soon.
