Aston Villa are among a number of clubs eyeing a January swoop for Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Clayton, according to the Yorkshire Post.

The likes of Cardiff, Leeds United and Sheffield United are also keen on the combative star, with Clayton struggling for frequent first-team action at the moment.

Would Clayton be a good signing for Steve Bruce and Aston Villa?

We discuss.....

Alfie Burns

I’d argue that Clayton isn’t what Villa need in January, with Bruce’s squad needing reinforcements elsewhere on the field.

Central midfield is an area where Villa have plenty of options, and although Clayton is an exceptional talent, Bruce should leave him alone.

Bruce needs a striker and that’s what he should be going to get this month.

Luke Randall

Easily break into the Villa midfield.

After displaying some moment of brilliance at the Riverside, Adam Clayton can offer the solidity in midfield while providing an extra dynamic moving forward.

Given his ability, if Steve Bruce can manage to bring the best out of the midfielder then he could be that missing piece so far.

George Dagless

He'd be a superb signing.

Clayton is a good player and has been frustrated at Middlesbrough this season.

If Villa can bring him in and get him performing to his highest levels then they will be big candidates for the play-offs in May.
