Brentford manager Dean Smith is being targeted by West Brom with the Baggies set to approach the 47-year-old, according to the Telegraph.

Smith is also joined by Michael Appleton in the race to get the top job at the Midlands outfit.

Would Dean Smith and West Brom be a good fit?

We discuss....

Jay Williams

Dean Smith has consistently performed well with Brentford and yet another positive season has seen them recover from a poor start to finish just shy of the play-off zone.

But each year, he has just fallen short of the final hurdle. If he went to West Brom, they would expect nothing less than promotion and he just does not have that sort of experience to offer.

George Dagless

He'd be a superb appointment.

Brentford fans would be upset, though, because he's got them playing some great football and a shot at the play-offs next year is not out of the question.

If he can bring that style to the Baggies and it works, though, I'd imagine they'd prove tough to stop.

Alfie Burns

It’s hard not to be impressed by the job Smith has done at Brentford.

The Bees are constantly punching above their weight, with their manager deserving huge credit.

He’d be a brilliant appointment for West Brom, and I do think they have a chance of landing him, should they make him the right offer.

Personally, I think he’s taken Brentford as far as he can and a new challenge would appeal to him.

Chris Gallagher

It's a very good move.

I'd still be tempted to go with Darren Moore because of the job he's done but Smith is a fine choice if not.

He has experience of the league, plays attractive football and has proven himself to be a good manager. He would be a success if he took over.
