Rangers are reportedly interested in a deal to sign Norwich City midfielder Kenny McLean according to the Scottish Sun.

It is claimed that the Scottish giants are keen on landing the midfielder's signature in the January transfer window, although it remains to be seen as to whether that will be on loan or on a permanent deal.

McLean has made eight appearances for Norwich City this season in the Championship, with Daniel Farke's side looking to make a swift return to the Premier League following their relegation last term.

Speaking in an interview with Football Insider, former Rangers defender Alan Hutton felt as though McLean would be a strong addition to the Scottish club, and admitted that he wasn't surprised to hear of his former side's interest in the Norwich midfielder.

"I think he’d be a really good signing, he’s a great player.

"He knows what it’s all about, he’s obviously played up Scotland, he knows how big those teams are so I think it’d be a fantastic signing.

"He’s such a quality player, he’s had a lot of experience down south now that he can add to Gerrard’s squad so it doesn’t surprise me they’re looking at him."

McLean and his Norwich City team-mates are set to return to action this weekend, when they take Middlesbrough in what is likely to be a potentially tricky match against an in-form Boro side.

The Verdict:

I have to agree with Hutton here.

McLean hasn't consistently in the Norwich City team in the last couple of seasons, and you would imagine that he'll be tempted by a move to the club the size of Rangers.

The Gers are certainly heading in the right direction under the management of Steven Gerrard, and I think he'd add much-needed strength in depth to their side this season.

It'll be interesting to see whether any initial agreement is on loan or a permanent basis though.
