Sky Bet Championship promotion contenders Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Nottingham Forest's Yohan Benalouane.

The Tunisian centre-half became Martin O’Neill’s first signing as manager of the Reds, and has since become a regular for the Irishman as they look to push for a top six finish this season.

And his solid form for the Reds hasn't gone unnoticed, with reports claiming that both Leeds and Premier League side Cardiff are tracking the defender ahead of a potential summer move.

Here, FLW writer George Harbey discusses this latest transfer development, in our FLW Six Pointer...

Firstly, what have you made of Yohan Benalouane this season?

He has been solid if spectacular.

He isn't the finished article just yet, but has shown real leadership and quality in defence next to Alex Milosevic, who have both improved the Reds defence.

He would have been desperate to gain regular game-time when leaving Leicester in January, and he has impressed me since signing for Forest.

With that being said, do you think he would be a good signing for Leeds?

Benalouane has proven that he could be a very good signing at Championship level, but if Leeds win promotion to the Premier League, can he make the step-up to the top-flight?

I don't think so, in all honesty.

He hardly played a game for Leicester and was way down the pecking order at the King Power Stadium, and in my view, there are better options out there.

Would he fit in at Leeds United?

What surprises me is how important Benalouane is to Forest in terms of playing out from the back, as when you look at him, you think that he's just a no-nonsense centre-half.

The Tunisian wins plenty of aerial duels due to his powerful, towering presence, but also completes plenty of passes per game.

Knowing Bielsa and how he likes his side to play, he'd be a great addition at Elland Road.

Are you surprised to see Leeds supposedly targeting a new defender?

It's a difficult one.

Liam Cooper and Pontus Jansson have been superb this season, and have shown enough to suggest that they can more than hold their own in the Premier League.

But they desperately need competition for places and reinforcements in that department - they only really have Gaetano Berardi as back-up, and they can't afford to play one of their best players in Kalvin Phillips in defence if they are plagued with injuries again.

Can you see a deal being completed?

I can definitely see a deal being done.

Can you see Forest wanting to sign him permanently?

This could be a potential snag in Leeds' pursuit of Benalouane - if O'Neill wants to keep Benalouane beyond this season, you would think that the Reds are in the driving seat.

He is already settled in the East Midlands, and is a popular figure at the City Ground, and ultimately, he's a regular starter for Forest and is finally receiving regular game-time.

Of course, if the opportunity to sign for Leeds arises, it would be a massive head-turner for Benalouane - it is certainly shaping up to be an eventful summer.
