Leeds United continue to set the pace in the Championship this season and are now top of the table by three points, but already there are signs that manager Marcelo Bielsa's policy of operating with a streamlined squad could prove a hindrance over the course of an arduous season.

It begs the question whether Bielsa should be looking to add to his squad by considering signing defender Steven Caulker who is a free agent, and a target of Aston Villa as reported in the Birmingham Mail.

So should Leeds make a play for Caulker?

We discuss.....

Gary Hutchinson

Possibly.

The problem would be Caulker wouldn’t be playing every game and he desperately needs to be.

He’s trying to rebuild his career and he can’t do that from the bench.

He’d be a great squad player for them, but that wouldn’t suit him.

George Dagless

I think so, he'd be a good addition.

Leeds have got a good squad but it is thin on the ground.

Bielsa thinks he can get by but in recent weeks the injuries have started to creep in.

They are still looking good but I think Caulker, under Bielsa, could be a shrewd arrival.

Jay Taylor

I wouldn’t bother.

They don’t need him surely, even with Gaetano Berardi out injured - which is only for the short term.

It would be a waste of money and a shortsighted approach plucking players out who are left in the wilderness.

No point adding now, just carry on through to January and see then.

George Harbey

I don’t really see any reason why Leeds should look to move in for Caulker - they have Berardi returning from injury in the next couple of weeks and Jansson and Cooper are forming a solid partnership at the back in his absence.

If Bielsa thinks he needs to add another centre half to his ranks then fair enough, Caulker would be a solid addition having endured a decent spell at Dundee last term.
