Leeds United continue to impress this season with manager Marcelo Bielsa working hard to achieve his aim of gaining an automatic promotion spot, having come so close last season.

But in Bielsa the Whites owners know they have someone who could easily walk out of Elland Road if his project fails to deliver, and as such a replacement for the Argentine must be something they consider.

Athletic reporter Phil Hay has indicated that talk of a replacement for Bielsa is something on their agenda when in a fan Q&A on October 31 he claimed: "In terms of coaches they like, Lee Bowyer is someone who's caught their eye (and caught their eye a while ago)."

So would Bowyer be a good Bielsa replacement at Elland Road?

We discuss.........

Dean Cooke

"He'd be a brilliant replacement for Bielsa, he knows what it takes to play for Leeds and knows exactly what the club is all about.

"He's been terrific at Charlton and done an absolutely fantastic job as boss of the Addicks. He's proved his capabilities through different leagues, and his management skills are excellent.

"With the funds that would be available to him at Leeds, there would be pressure on him to utilise the transfer market but he's found some great bargains in his time at Charlton.

"He'd be a good replacement if Bielsa decides to leave at the end of the season, the only thing I would say is the fans would need to give him time as the styles of play would be hugely different."

Ben Lang

"Bowyer's excellent work at Charlton means he would be one of the obvious potential replacements for Bielsa at Leeds, and he is also already familiar with the club.

"The former midfielder has guided the Addicks from League One to the top half of the Championship in little over a year in charge, and the fact he has been working on such a limited budget means he could surely achieve even bigger things with more money at his disposal.

"There is also only so far that Bowyer would be able to take Charlton, so it could reach the point in the near future where he is in need of a new challenge to keep his career progressing, which means his potential future appointment at Leeds could be a good move for both parties.

"Bowyer's strong tactical awareness will have been what was caught Leeds' eye, and the fact he is considered as such a popular figure at Elland Road means it has every chance of being a seamless appointment."

Jacob Potter

"I think he’d be the perfect replacement for Bielsa when Leeds part company with the Argentine.

"I can’t see Bielsa leaving anytime soon but when he does, Bowyer would be the ideal manager to replace him at Elland Road.

"He’s a manager that knows the club inside and out after spending some of his playing career with the Yorkshire-based side.

"Bowyer has also shown that he has got what it takes when it comes to management, having guided Charlton Athletic back into the Championship last term.

"The Addicks were many peoples favourites to be relegated at the start of this year’s campaign, but Bowyer has silenced his doubters and they could be in with a chance of challenging for a top-six finish this season.

"He’d be fully deserving of a move to Leeds in the future, and I could see him proving to be a success at Elland Road if he was to be appointed."
