Paul Heckingbottom takes charge of his first Leeds United game tomorrow, with his side travelling to Bramall Lane to take on Sheffield United in a Yorkshire derby.

The 40-year-old was appointed at Elland Road earlier this week, tasked with turning Leeds’ season around, with the Whites without a victory since Boxing Day and seeing their play-off hopes dashed.

Leeds are stretched on numbers heading to Bramall Lane tomorrow, with injuries and suspensions hindering Heckingbottom’s first team selection.

Here at FLW, we believe it is absolutely vital that Heckingbottom keeps faith with Pierre-Michel Lasogga tomorrow, despite the temptation he might have to move Kemar Roofe into a central role or hand Tyler Roberts a debut.

During Thomas Christiansen’s final few fixtures at Elland Road, £1.8m-rated Lasogga looked something like his best, scoring an impressive brace against Millwall and causing numerous problems in other appearances.

The 26-year-old German striker is guilty of missing chances, but he remains Leeds’ best striker, who is capable of producing, just as he showed in the defeat to Millwall last month.

Heckingbottom will have analysed his Leeds squad over the course of the last week and assessed what was going wrong under Christiansen towards his final days at Elland Road.

One thing that stood out was the lack of goals within Leeds’ team, which if it is to be addressed, Lasogga must find himself in the starting XI.

Heckingbottom’s task at Elland Road is huge, but if he is to resurrect a play-off push, he needs Lasogga to start firing and add to his seven goals this season – starting tomorrow at Bramall Lane.
