Leeds United disappointed during he 2017/18 campaign, with Paul Heckingbottom’s side eventually stumbling to 13th in the Sky Bet Championship table.

Heckingbottom, for now, looks set to oversee the summer transfer window, and will be looking to reshape the squad he inherited from Thomas Christiansen during his first transfer window.

The Whites are already working on a number of targets ahead of the summer, with the hope that they can get the right personnel on board to challenge for a place in the top-six next season.

It will not just be additions Heckingbottom is looking to make to his squad, with the 40-year-old needing to trim the fringes of his squad this summer.

There are far too many at Elland Road who haven’t shown enough to warrant a place in next season’s squad.

With that in mind, we take a look at THREE players who Heckingbottom needs to be axing…

Wiedwald’s first year in English football was a struggle, with the German goalkeeper really disappointing.

There were far too many mistakes from Wiedwald over the course of the season, which led to him getting dropped on two separate occasions.

Heckingbottom needs to be ruthless and get Wiedwald out of Elland Road.

Murphy will return to Elland Road following a season-long loan with Burton Albion.

The midfielder has done reasonably well at Burton, but he hasn’t done enough to warrant another chance at Elland Road.

The 28-year-old needs to be moving on permanently.

Anita arrived at Elland Road with a wealth of experience, but endured a difficult campaign, out of position, at full-back.

The Dutchman really struggled at times and Heckingbottom should be looking to offload him this summer.

Leeds’ supporters were frustrated they never saw Anita in central midfield, but with plenty of other options, it’s easy to see why Heckingbottom didn’t experiment.
