The first half of Paul Heckingbottom's debut home match in charge of Leeds United could not have gone any worse.

The Whites found themselves 2-0 down to Bristol City by the time the half-time whistle blew and his side were booed off the pitch by their own fans.

Only one and a half matches into his reign at Elland Road and Heckingbottom was already facing a big half time team talk.

It was one that he managed to pull off as it inspired Leeds to get two goals back and they could have won the match late on but Pierre-Michel Lasogga's header cannoned off the bar.

Heckingbottom has afforded an insight into the team talk that turned the match around. Speaking to Leeds Live, he said: "I'm not going to say what I said to the players, but it's just for me to be really clear with the players, not drone on about insignificant things.

"Just ‘what’s wrong? What do we need to see more of? What’s right?’ and then be really specific.

"Individual players need to know what they need to do, they need telling, if individual players need to be told what we need to see more of, they need telling, so it was just really to the point.

"It was really clear to me what was wrong and the players responded well."

The Verdict

Heckingbottom has faced his first real test as Leeds manager and he came through with flying colours. A comeback win would have been the icing on the cake.

It should be a sign of promise for the Leeds fans that he managed to inspire the players and shake them into action.
