Talks remain ongoing between Leeds United and Pablo Hernandez, as the two parties discuss the possibility of the 32-year-old extending his stay at Elland Road.

Hernandez’s current deal with Leeds is set to expire in the summer, with Leeds leaving it late to discuss an extension with the former Spanish international with talks still at an early stage.

The 32-year-old has featured regularly for Leeds under both Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom this season, registering seven goals and a further seven assists across all competitions.

West Yorkshire Sport quizzed Heckingbottom over Hernandez’s future, with the Leeds boss facing questions about discussions over a new deal.

Heckingbottom responded saying: “There's been contact and discussions are ongoing.

“It's pointless me saying anything until we've got an answer either way, it's done when it's done.

"Until we get a definitive answer we'll keep trying."

Hernandez has been one of very few positives at Elland Road this season, as Leeds drift towards a mid-table finish under Heckingbottom.

Leeds enter today’s fixture with Bolton Wanderers in 14th, with the Whites looking for just their second victory of 2018 against Phil Parkinson’s side this afternoon.

Hernandez will be looking to make his 37th appearance of the season against the Trotters.

The Verdict

There is no doubt that Leeds need to get Hernandez on fresh terms ahead of the summer, as the Spanish forward is vital to Heckingbottom’s side.

Over the course of the season Hernandez has been Leeds’ most consistent player and should he leave, Leeds’ supporters will be furious with the club’s management team.

Hernandez will be looking to prove his worth to Leeds over the course of the next eight fixtures, which could be his last at Elland Road.
