Leeds United boss Paul Heckingbottom has praised youngster Bailey Peacock-Farrell who delivered another assured performance against Reading on Saturday.

The 21-year old was thrown into the deep end against leaders Wolves on Wednesday and even though the Whites lost 3-0, he was one of very few positives.

Therefore, Heckingbottom kept faith in the stopper for the game against Reading and impressed once again in the 2-2 draw.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, his manager admitted that it’s his shirt to lose from now on.

The shirt is his as it stands, but I’d want him to know that he’s got to earn and keep his place. He’s got goalkeepers breathing down his neck, but the players know I’m fair with that and he’s in the driving seat.”

The former Barnsley boss also felt that Peacock-Farrell improved from Wednesday’s showing.

“e was better than he was against Wolves. I was really pleased with him on the pitch against Wolves because his demeanour impressed me. Today he made saves when he had to make saves. His kicking was good and his handling was good.”

The Verdict

There aren’t many positives for Leeds at the minute but Peacock-Farrell certainly is one.

The goalkeeping situation has been hugely problematic for Leeds all season but it looks as if the youngster could now get a run in the side to show what he can do.

It's far too early to say he will be the long-term answer but for now he deserves his chance in the team and hopefully for the Whites he continues to improve.
