Paul Heckingbottom has described Lauren De Bock’s hamstring tear as a damaging one, with the Leeds United left-back not expected to return in the short-term.

Leeds only moved to sign De Bock during the January transfer window, with the 25-year-old managing seven appearances before injury struck him down.

De Bock was forced out of Leeds’ starting XI against Sheffield Wednesday last time out, with Heckingbottom discussing the defender’s injury prior to Leeds’ return to action this afternoon against Bolton Wanderers.

Heckingbottom told Leeds Live: “Pretty damaging hamstring tear, so he’s still feeling all the little bits of discomfort and pain, so, difficult to put a time frame on it, but he’s not going to be short-term.”

Tom Pearce deputised for De Bock in Leeds’ 2-1 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday last time out, with Heckingbottom turning to the 19-year-old and handing him a senior debut at left-back.

Leeds’ academy graduate will be hoping to retain his place in the starting XI this afternoon, as Heckingbottom’s side welcome Bolton to Elland Road.

Since the turn of the year, Leeds have managed just one victory, which has left them a disappointing 14th ahead of the final eight fixtures of the season.

The Verdict

De Bock’s start to life in English football had been a difficult one, with the defender not really settling like many would’ve hoped.

However, there have been signs during his first seven appearances that there is something there and Heckingbottom will be frustrated with his injury.

De Bock needs minutes on the field as he continues to adapt to life in the Championship.
