Paul Heckingbottom has revealed that Kemar Roofe is unable to run, with the Leeds United forward continuing to struggle with a calf problem.

Leeds Live have delivered a transcript of Heckingbottom’s pre-Wolves press conference, where the Elland Road boss delivers an update on Roofe, who has missed the last two Sky Bet Championship fixtures with a muscle problem.

Discussing the forward’s absence and when he could return, Heckingbottom said: “It’s still his calf, muscles problems. I wouldn’t like to guess.

“He’s not running yet. We’re going to get him on the AlterG so he can have some assisted running and see how he does and it’s the same with everything.

“He’s progressing slowly, bit by bit, and so long as there’s not setbacks he’ll be back sooner rather than later.”

The 25-year-old has 12 goals to his name this season, leaving him as Leeds’ top goalscorer across all competitions.

However, his calf problem has ruled him out of clashes with Brentford and Middlesbrough, as Leeds’ play-off hopes continue to fade.

Heckingbottom will be without Roofe once again this week, with Leeds welcoming Wolverhampton Wanderers to Molineux on Wednesday evening.

Despite not having Roofe at his disposal against the league leaders, Heckingbottom and Leeds will be boosted by the return of Pablo Hernandez, who like Roofe, has missed the last two.

The Spanish playmaker, 32, has trained with Leeds ahead of Wednesday.

The Verdict

Prior to his injury, Roofe was hardly setting the world alight with his performances for Leeds, however, he is the club’s top goalscorer and Heckingbottom will want him available as soon as possible.

Since his arrival at Elland Road, Heckingbottom has been discussing that the playing squad are playing for their future with Leeds, and Roofe is included in that.

Roofe will want to show his boss what he is all about.
