Paul Heckingbottom has confirmed that Barnsley are looking to secure a deal for Harrison Manzala, who is currently in England, as reported by BBC Radio Sheffield’s, Jonathan Buchan.

Speaking to the press, Heckingbottom confirmed that the Amiens midfielder was in England, with Barnsley looking to sign the 23-year-old from the French Ligue 1 outfit.

Manzala has featured on 22 occasions for Amiens in Ligue 1 so far this season, chipping in with two goals and a further two assists, helping his side to 13th after 22 fixtures of the 2017/18 campaign.

The attacking midfielder has made a seamless transaction into life in the French top-flight this season, having played a significant role in helping Amiens to promotion last year.

Manzala featured on 19 occasions in Ligue 2 last season, scoring five goals and registering a further three assists.

Heckingbottom has identified Manzala as a target for Barnsley, as he looks to bolster his squad at Oakwell during a late stage of the transfer window.

Barnsley currently sit 19th in the Sky Bet Championship table, with the Tykes hovering just two points above the relegation zone, having picked up 27 points from their opening 28 fixtures of the season.

The Verdict

At 23, and having never played in England before, there is risk to Barnsley making a move for Manzala.

However, the attacking midfielder has been reasonably successful in France, impressing in both the first and second-tier.

Manzala has proved he can score goals and set them up for his teammates, which is certainly something that has been missing at Oakwell, with Barnsley scoring on just 28 occasions this season.
