Hearts open talks with Championship defender as he nears the exit door

According to sources close to HITC Sport, Ipswich Town defender Christophe Berra has opened talks with Hearts as he edges closer to securing a move back to Scotland.

Christophe Berra’s contract is up this summer and Ipswich have offered him fresh terms.

But the Scotsman has declined that offer as he wants to move back to Scotland to be closer to his family.

This news has alerted Hearts and Rangers to the availability of the towering centre half, but Hearts remain in pole position to land Berra.

Christophe Berra started his career at Hearts, playing well over 100 games for the Edinburgh based outfit before joining Wolves in 2009.

From Wolves, the regular Scotland international signed for Ipswich in 2013 and he has been a loyal servant during his four seasons at the club.

The 32-year-old is now a free agent and wants to move closer to home with Hearts set to secure a return for their former captain.
