Hearts boss Ian Cathro has played down reports linking his side with a move for Norwich City's international shot-stopper Michael McGovern, according to STV.

McGovern, who joined Norwich last summer on a free transfer, was linked with a move to Tynecastle earlier this month.

The 32-year-old has played Scottish football for the majority of his career and would be no stranger to the Scottish Premiership, having turned out for Hamilton and Dundee United in the division, as well as playing at other levels of the Scottish football pyramid for various clubs including Falkirk, St. Johnstone and Stranraer.

Last season, the Northern Irishman played 19 Championship games for the Canaries as Norwich struggled to muster together a convincing promotion challenge, eventually finishing eighth in the division and ten points adrift of the top six.

Following the disappointing campaign, McGovern's fellow Norwich shot-stopper John Ruddy was released and Man City youngster Angus Gunn has since arrived on loan.

Thus, McGovern's position in the Norwich first team is now under threat following the arrival of Gunn, and there is potential for a move away from Carrow Road for the Northern Ireland international this summer.

But following speculation, boss Cathro has denied interest from Hearts in the goalkeeper.
