Alaves forward Oliver Burke has claimed that he felt left out and subsequently lost his motivation at parent club West Bromwich Albion, which has drawn a furious response from fans of the Midlands club.

The Scotsman signed from RB Leipzig for a reported fee of around £15 million in August 2017 but has struggled to ever really make an impact in the Baggies first team.

Burke has made just 24 appearances in total for the Championship club, scoring once and providing three assists, and has twice been sent away on loan.

He joined La Liga side Alaves on a season-long loan in August and has become a mainstay in the side over the last few months.

Speaking to The Guardian, Burke revealed that he had felt left out at the Hawthorns and indicated that was part of why he had failed to have much success.

He said: "At West Brom I felt very left out, not part of the team. You train and go home, feeling down. Your motivation gets sucked away when you know that whatever you do your name won’t be on the team sheet."

The 22-year-old added: "Being here is a breath of fresh air. I haven’t been happier. I feel like a proper footballer again, really good in myself.”

Without Burke, the Baggies are flying in the Championship and will go top if they beat Preston North End on Monday evening.

The forward's recent comments do not seem to have gone down well with West Brom supporters, who took to Twitter to express their fury.
