Charlton Athletic have secured the service of Chris Maxwell on loan until the end of the 2018/19 season.

Lee Bowyer was dealt a major blow when Jed Steer was recalled by Aston Villa in recent weeks, leaving his Charlton side short of a goalkeeping option.

Now, the League One club have confirmed on their official website that they’ve secured the service of Maxwell on loan, with the 28-year-old goalkeeper arriving from Preston North End.

Maxwell has made over 80 appearances across all competitions for Preston since 2016, including 11 at the start of the current season for Alex Neil's side.

However, after a red card in the 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town in early November, the goalkeeper has lost his place in the side to Declan Rudd.

That’s allowed Charlton to swoop to sign him, filling a void in Bowyer’s promotion-chasing squad.

Here’s a look at some of the Charlton reaction to that transfer news…
