Sheffield United are reported to be in for Brentford’s Ollie Watkins in January, with the Blades lining up a £15 million bid for the striker.

Chris Wilder is looking to splash the cash again in January, and wants to bring in Bees forward Ollie Watkins. The 23-year-old has scored seven goals in the Championship so far, and has been the saving grace for 17th-placed Brentford this season.

Having secured promotion to the Premier League last season, Sheffield United smashed their transfer-record three times bringing in Luke Freeman from QPR, Callum Robinson from Preston and Oli McBurnie from Swansea.

Watkins could be another Championship addition for Wilder in January, and in the latest FLW Six-Pointer we look at whether Brentford will be able to hold on to him.

Will Watkins want to stay at Brentford?

"Thomas Frank’s Brentford have had a sub-par start to the season and would likely be relegation contenders without Watkins' influence.

"Watkins is in his third full-season at Griffin Park, and may feel it's time to move onward and upwards from Brentford who’ve stalled in the last two seasons."

Will Brentford let Watkins go?

"Brentford won’t want Watkins to leave. The transfer money they’d get for him though might prove a deciding factor for Brentford.

"It could make financial sense to offload Watkins in January, and they could use the cash to bring in a few fresh faces."

Would Watkins get first-team football at Sheffield United?

"Blades have failed to score in their last three games in all competitions and have only scored seven Premier League goals this season.

"Watkins has scored as many league goals as Wilder’s team this season - he would surely walk straight into the first-team at Bramall Lane."

Would Watkins want to play for Wilder?

"In post-match interviews this season, Wilder has often come across as being very harsh on his players.

"It’s divided people's opinion on Wilder and his rather negative demeanour, and it could prove decisive in Watkins joining the cub in January."

When does Watkins’ contract at Brentford expire?

"Just this summer Watkins signed a long-term contract at Griffin Park, keeping him there until 2023."

Is the January transfer window the best time to move for Watkins?

"Joining a new club midway through a season will have its downfalls. Watkins won't have the luxury of a pre-season to get to know his new teammates and manager and understand the philosophy of that club.

"Watkins may be better off waiting until the summer, having a good season at Brentford and then looking for the exit - Brentford fans would likely prefer this outcome too."
