Aston Villa manager Dean Smith is looking at League Two as he weighs up a bid for exciting Mansfield star CJ Hamilton, according to a report on Football Insider.

Villa are said to have had scouts at Tuesday night’s 1-0 home win over Crawley Town and now want to pursue a bid for the player, who is already said to be on the wanted lists of West Bromwich Albion and Preston North End.

If Villa did sign him, would Hamilton get into Villa's starting XI?

We discuss.....

Louie Chandler

"Definitely not.

"The guy has done well for Mansfield but his record is not good enough to displace Bolasie or El Ghazi outwide or Abraham up front.

"He would purely be a squad player."

Gary Hutchinson

“Absolutely not.

“He wouldn’t get in Sunderland’s, nor Luton Town.

“He’s had six decent months at Mansfield, but he’s not exactly tearing up the league, is he?

“I’m not sure what the fixation is with Hamilton. I’ve seen him play a full 90 minutes twice recently and on both occasions he was good, but not Aston Villa good."

“Not yet.”

Jay Taylor

“I don’t think he would.

“CJ Hamilton would be more of a squad player for Dean Smith – for this season at least.

“Maybe next year, after six months in the Championship he would be in a better position to challenge for a regular place in the first-team.

“But for now I see him making the odd start with a majority of substitute appearances, should be move to Villa Park.”
