Bristol City’s top-six ambitions very much hang in the balance over the next few weeks of the season.

Lee Johnson’s side have been largely excellent over the entire campaign but risk losing their footing in the hunt for a play-off spot, currently sat in eighth place having lost four of their last five matches.

But still, they remain just two points behind Aston Villa, who currently occupy sixth, and with two games in hand on Dean Smith’s side.

However, it seems that some attentions have already turned to next season with rumours already flying around regarding summer signings.

One of whom will be Middlesbrough marksman Britt Assombalonga, according to Bristol Live.

But what should we make of this latest story for the Robins?

Taking today’s six-pointer is FLW Writer Louie Chandler…

What are the chances of it happening?

Do Bristol City need him?

“I would say so.

“If you look at their impressive run of results, a lot of that came down to the club’s impeccable organisation and solid back-line.

“In recent weeks, when they have needed more goals, they have come unstuck.”

What will he bring?

“Ruthless finishing.

“Famara Diedhou and Andy Weimann have all had decent enough spells this season but neither have scored with anywhere near enough regularity.

“Both need three or four chances per game to score where as Assombalonga is much more likely to take any chance that may come his way.”

What would his arrival mean for Famara Diedhiou?

“It wouldn’t be a ringing endorsement from Johnson, that’s for sure.

“At 26, however, it certainly would not mean the end and a lot will come down to the attitude of the physical striker.

“If he takes this increased competition in the correct manner, then it could well bring the best out of him.”

How much should they be looking to pay?

“Middlesbrough paid around £15million to Nottingham Forest for his services, but it would be hard to argue he has gone up in value.

“However, considering the inflated market in which we now operate, it probably will not have dropped too much either.

“If the Robins could get him for around £8-10million I think it will be a decent deal.”

Could they do better?

“It is hard to say. Are there better strikers in the Championship? Of course there are.

“But if you look outside the division there are not too many reliable goalscorers who you fancy to come in and score goals straight away.

“City have worked wonders when signing strikers before by going further afield but I think playing it safe with Britt would be sensible here.”

Would he take them up?

"That is tough to say.

"To bank on one player to turn a Championship side into a promotion winning one is a real risk but you have to say that he would bring a lot of what is currently missing at the club.

"If they can retain the rest of their key men and bring in Britt then I would be very confident."
